CFTC Commitments of Traders (COT) Dashboard
The Commitments of Traders report, published weekly by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), breaks down who holds futures positions in each market. RetailVest tracks it across nine commodities — gold, silver, copper, platinum, palladium, WTI crude oil, natural gas, corn and wheat — and turns the raw numbers into a readable positioning signal.
The report splits traders into commercials(producers and consumers hedging real exposure — the “smart money”) and managed money (speculators taking the other side). We compute a 3-year z-score of net positioning so you can see when a market is at a genuine extreme rather than just reading the raw contract count. Research on hedging pressure finds that unusually net-short commercials have historically preceded firmer prices — which is why the z-score matters more than the headline number.
COT data is released each Friday afternoon (as of Tuesday's positions). Open any commodity for the full breakdown: gold, silver, copper, WTI crude, natural gas, corn and wheat, or rank them all on the positioning desk. Data sourced from the CFTC; educational analysis, not investment advice.
